Working on wind energy generation

DB Schenker is transporting 920,000 m of cables for a wind energy project aimed to enable the use of the North Sea’s wind energy in Western Germany by installing a new power line. The 876 cable drums with a total weight of 43,000 t are being shipped for Sumitomo Electric Industries from Kobe and Mannheim to storage hubs in Emden, Wesel and Krefeld in Germany.

DB Schenker has devised a multimodal solution for this journey, starting with sea transport from Japan to Emden or Dutch ports. From there, barges bring the goods to the other two hubs. Sumitomo‘s production plant in Mannheim is also supplying drums for the project.

With its customised IT solutions DB Schenker can provide Sumitomo with a comprehensive overview and up-to-the-minute updates of the transport. (mk)
