ZIM appoints second female captain

In an emotional ceremony held at the headquarters of ZIM Integrated Shipping Services in Haifa, Israel, Angelina Egorenkov received the official appointment of captain, the most senior in the merchant fleet, from ZIM President and CEO Eli Glickman last week.

Egorenkov began her maritime career as a cadet on the company's ships in 2003. She sailed on ZIM ships as a chief mate from 2017 and passed the tests for the rank of captain in June 2021.

A professional committee headed by ZIM's VP of global operations, David Arbel, approved and recommended her appointment as acting captain. In December, she will receive command of the “ZIM Qingdao”, which operates on the ZIM container service Atlantic line from the Mediterranean to the US East Coast.

ZIM appointed Shani Ben-David as its first female captain in April this year, a ground breaking event in the Israeli merchant fleet. (ah)
