Dear readers,

The coming of spring in the planet’s northern hemisphere allows our dreams to blossom again after the long and dark winter months. Something similar can be said of the transport and logistics industry’s expectations. The distribution of vaccines as a passport to overcoming the outbreak of Covid-19 is slowly taking realistic shape (page 12), whilst demand from consumers and catch-up effects from during the pandemic are playing into the markets’ hands.

This is contrasted with the fact that supply chain bottlenecks still have to be overcome to make sure goods arrive on time. It remains to be seen whether the blockage of the Suez Canal makes the Arctic northern route attractive (page 8), whether the last mile becomes more efficient thanks to e-vehicles (page 16) or whether the USA’s inland waterways will finally be rehabilitated (page 18). You’ll find some answers in this issue – and the latest news from Italy and the project logistics sector in our Special supplements.

Here’s to your enjoyable read!
