Dear readers,

The summer of 2025 marks a turning point, which is why it’s appropriate for us to take a closer look. Whilst markets are trying to get used to the ‘new normal’, logistics remains a field where change is a constant.

In Spain, for example, the port of Tarragona is expanding in a completely new way, aiming to become a multimodal freight transport centre that connects the port more deeply with the hinterland, and at the same time make it more independent of classic export options.

The view we take of the Chinese ‘Air Silk Road’ is even more far-reaching. What is being wrought there, between Zhengzhou, Luxembourg, Liège and other hubs, is more than airfreight connections – it’s part of a tense political field in which the economy, trade, ethical values, regulations and strategic interests overlap.

You can find out what reality looks like in a network itself in a broad-ranging interview with two representatives of WCAworld. This issue thus brings together many topics, including the transformation of infrastructure, the intertwining of global relationships and the search for resilient solutions.

Because not every challenge always comes in the same shape and size, we also dedicate our separate Breakbulk & Heavylift Special to those transports that are really – physically, technically, logistically – out of the ordinary.

The editors wish you an enjoyable read!

Yours,

Jeremy Soland
