Mauritanian airport aims to play bigger role

Afroport Mauritanie, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi-based Afroport Airport Services and the government of Mauritania, was appointed operator and ground handler at Nouakchott airport in 2018. It has now achieved its Isago certification.

According to the audit conducted by Iata, the West African company handles air cargo and mail, among other things, in compliance with the highest security standards. It underlines the airport operator's efforts to assign a strategic function to the airport, which opened six years ago.

For Afroport, NKC "has the potential to develop into a major gateway to Africa from Europe and the Americas. The close vicinity to the sea port makes it an ideal candidate for becoming a strategic logistics centre for both trade and military movement." (ah)
